MoCCA Arts Festival to feature two Taiwanese artists

Taiwanese artists Ding Pao-yen (丁柏晏) and Chen Pei-hsiu (陳沛珛) will make their U.S. debut at the MoCCA Arts Festival, set to take place on Mar. 15 and 16. Both artists will participate in a caricature drawing event, engaging closely with U.S. comics enthusiasts and international artists.

The MoCCA Arts Festival, one of the largest independent comics events on the U.S. East Coast, is held annually in the spring. Since 2017, the Taipei Cultural Center in New York (TCCNY) has collaborated with the festival to showcase contemporary Taiwanese comics on the international stage.

Ding Pao-yen, also known as Morning Anxiety (日安焦慮), is known for blending video games and sci-fi elements in his work. In 2023, he was selected as one of the ten featured artists in the “Worldwide Comics Explosion” program at the Angoulême International Comics Festival.

Chen Pei-hsiu is known for her detailed and reserved illustrations. She was twice nominated for the Prize for Young Talent at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. Her comic “For the Time Being (暫時先這樣)” won the 2020 Golden Comics Award and the 2021 TiBE Book Prize.

TCCNY emphasized that the artists’ participation in the MoCCA Arts Festival provides an opportunity to showcase the diverse styles and unique narratives of Taiwanese comics, fostering connections with international creators and encouraging future collaborations.
