Supported by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), the 19th Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) festival in Chicago, U.S., opened on Mar. 20, featuring eight Taiwanese films, including “Dead Talents Society (鬼才之道)” and “Old Fox (老狐狸).” Director John Hsu (徐漢強) and lead actor Chen Bo-lin (陳柏霖) of “Dead Talents Society” attended the opening ceremony, where Chen received the Bright Star Award.
Taking place from Mar. 20 to Apr. 13, the APUC showcases 49 films from 18 countries, including Taiwan, the U.S., Canada, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand. Notably, representing Taiwan, “Yen & Ai-Lee (小雁與吳愛麗)” and “The Uniform (夜校女生)” are in the running for the Grand Jury Feature Film Award, the Best Short Film Award, and the Francis Kwong Memorial Award.
Other featured Taiwanese films include “Hunter Brothers (獵人兄弟),” “Doubles Match (乒乓男孩),” “Growing Up (小畢的故事),” and “My Favorite Season (最想念的季節).”
