Film Society is proud to kick off Oklahoma City Museum of Art latest film series Blades & Ballet: King Hu and the Heroines of Wuxia, with a screening of master Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's "The Assassin" on November 2, 2023. Blades & Ballet is presented in association with Taiwan Academy in Houston, Ministry of Culture, Republic of China (Taiwan).
The opening night will Feature an exclusive reception, special introduction, and post-screening discussion with Dr. Man-Fung Yip, Chair and Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies at the University of Oklahoma, bringing master Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's signature long takes and exquisitely ornamental aesthetic to the wuxia genre.
A seven-film series, running from Nov 2 to 5, feature work in the wuxia genre by King Hu and other Taiwanese filmmakers. The films include "Dragon Inn"; "Goodbye, Dragon Inn"; "A Touch of Zen"; "The Fate of Lee Khan"; "Raining in the Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
The Oklahoma City Museum of Art Film Program is home to central Oklahoma's community-based, mission-driven art house cinema. This Film Program fulfills this mission year-round by screening the finest independent, international, and classic films in the Museum’s 230-seat Samuel Roberts Noble Theater.
