MOC makes open call for applications of 'Spotlight Taiwan' grants

Arts, cultural, and educational institutions – including museums, performing arts centers, and universities – in 17 U.S. states and three provinces in Canada are encouraged to submit project proposals to apply for funding up to a maximum of US$40,000 per year for holding courses, lectures, symposia, and workshops with research on Taiwan as their focus, under the "Spotlight Taiwan" grants program of the Ministry of Culture.

To promote international cultural exchanges and foster a wider appreciation of Taiwan's culture, the ministry launched the grants program in 2013 and will accept proposals through Oct. 26, 2020.

Universities and art, culture and academic institutions in the state of New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, as well as three provinces in Canada – Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick – are welcomed to submit proposals to the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, one of the Ministry’s overseas cultural centers and offices.

Key considerations for funding include the candidate's capacity for coordinating events, its influence among professional cultural communities, and selection of a theme which highlights a unique aspect of Taiwan's diverse culture and enhances the nation's cultural profile on the world stage. Visit here for more information.

Any major alterations to the original proposal should be detailed in a written letter and submitted to the New York-based center one month prior to the start of the event(s). Upon notification, the ministry reserves the right to adjust funding accordingly.

All approved projects must be implemented before November 10, 2021. Required documentation, such as the final report, expenditure table detailing all project expenses, and receipt(s) of the amount funded by the ministry, must be submitted to the ministry's overseas office by November 30, 2021. Any unspent funds shall be reimbursed to the ministry as well.
