Taiwanese indigenous artists present special exhibition 'Fluid Boundaries' in the U.S.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and coordinated by International Arts & Artists (IA&A), Taiwan Academy of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S., and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (KMFA), IA&A at Hillyer works with KMFA for the first time to present the special exhibition "Fluid Boundaries: Four Artists from the Pan-Austro-Nesian Arts Festival (泛·南·島藝術祭)."

The exhibition, which will run from May 7 to June 26, reflects the fluidity of the artists' self-identity, accentuating cultural characteristics that are in a constant state of flux. These groups of artists all identify with Taiwan's indigenous people. Through a quest for their own identity roots, they elaborate on their feelings in their artworks, bearing a unique interpretation of the island's history.

Setting out from Taiwan, four indigenous artists are selected to showcase 14 of their works including Idas Losin (宜德思·盧信), Labay Eyong (林介文), Chang En-man (張恩滿) and Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集). Most of these works are exhibited overseas for the first time.

The works that will be presented are "My Body is Half of a Mountain (我的身體半座山)" and "My Traditional Costumes are not Traditional (我的傳統服飾不傳統)" series by Labay Eyong; "Black Moon-Island (黑月系列:島)," "Tatara" and "Enclosed Island (封島)" by Idas Losin; "Snail Paradise Trilogy: Setting Sail or Final Chapter (蝸牛樂園三部曲:啟航或終章)" by Chang En-man; and Tjimur Dance Theatre specially filmed a dance titled "Varhung: The Body of Sound (Varhung~聲之身)" in front of Paiwan slate house for this exhibition.
