10 Taiwanese films made their debut at Malaysia International Film Festival

10 Taiwanese films were selected to screen at the 6th Malaysia International Film Festival, which was held from July 23 to 29. Curated by Kuo Ming-jung (郭敏容), the film festival opened with the Malaysian premiere of "Day Off (本日公休)" by director Fu Tien-yu (傅天余).

In a collaboration between the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia and the organizer of the film festival, Kuo Ming-jung was invited to curate the festival based on the theme of "Going Forward, Looking Back: The Reluctant Evolution of Contemporary Taiwan Films," with an aim to examine the development of Taiwan cinema after the New Wave through the works of new directors.

A total of five feature films, one documentary film, and one short film collection were chosen for the screening. On July 25, the tickets for the film "Day Off" by director Fu Tien-yu were almost sold out.

The "Taiwan Programme" segment includes films by directors who have to date made no more than three fictional features. Out of the 10 directors of these films, six of them are female directors, drawing attention to women’s life experience and memories.

Besides "Day Off," the other featured films include "Heavy Craving (大餓)," "GAGA (哈勇家)," "American Girl (美國女孩)," "Coo-Coo 043 (一家子兒咕咕叫)," "A Silent Gaze (北將七)" as well as a collection of four short films "The 2014 Consensus (家族無共識)," "Ten Years Taiwan (十年臺灣:路半)," "Last Year When the Train Passed by (去年火車經過時)," and "Babes' Not Alone (亮亮與噴子)."
