Supported by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, Taiwanese contemporary circus group Circus Gate (馬戲之門) was invited to showcase their work “After” at the Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival on Aug. 2, bringing a dazzling show to the local crowd.
Yang Shih-hao (楊世豪), the founder of Circus Gate and the creator of “After,” noted that the show “After,” a Cyr wheel show, is designed to tell his personal growth story by using the Cyr wheel to display an astonishing array of moves. He said that for the first time, he has opened the stage to allow viewers to closely examine the Cyr wheel and take pictures with it after the performance. This new level of engagement has provided him with unique experiences in interacting with the audience.
Established in Thailand in 2016, the Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival is the first of its kind in the country to integrate Thai performing arts with international programs, aiming to break assumptions about what a children’s theater festival should be.
“After” was staged at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center for three consecutively days. By holding dialogue sessions and workshops, the organizers hope inspire the Thai art community with the possibilities of circus and performing arts.
