The Taiwanese performing arts group Shinehouse Theater (曉劇場) was invited by the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo and the Honda Theater to stage their acclaimed show, “The Whisper of the Waves (潮來之音),” in Tokyo from Aug. 9 to 11. The opening show on Aug. 9 was attended by Japanese art professionals and audiences, who responded positively.
Chung Po-yuan (鍾伯淵), the director of the Shinehouse Theater and choreographer of the performance, noted that “The Whisper of the Waves” showcases Taiwan’s languages, culture, and social conditions while connecting with global issues.
This event marked a milestone as the first Taiwanese contemporary art group to perform at the Honda Theater.
Tseng Chien-lung (曾鈐龍), the director of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo, said that the Center initiated a cultural exchange program with the Honda Theater following a visit to Taiwan last year by the director of Honda Theater, Honda Shinichiro (本多慎一郎). Tseng added that Showgeki, a Japanese theater group, will be invited to perform at the Wan Theater (萬座曉劇場) in Taiwan this November.
