Bangkok Design Week features Taiwanese designs and crafts

Bangkok Design Week, presented by Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency, took place from Feb. 8 to 23 under the theme “Design Up+Rising.” The event featured artists from around the world, including Taiwanese curators and designers who showcased artworks and crafts from Taiwan.

Taiwanese curator Kuo Yu-pei (郭俞霈) brought together artists from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan to form the group “Taiwan Creator Around.” The group presented the exhibition “Runes in Sustainable Blessing: Multicultural Flow Pray and Bless Project (福符永續:多元文化祈福計畫巡迴展).”

Kuo, who has lived in Thailand for several years, noted that she has encountered many Chinese descendants in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia who share similar cultural backgrounds. This inspired her to invite artists from these regions to explore and express their connections to Chinese heritage through their works.

Additionally, Taiwan Designers’ Web (台灣設計師連線), a regular participant in Chiang Mai Design Week for four editions, made its debut at Bangkok Design Week. Their exhibition, “Chiayi Design Vision,” highlighted Chiayi City’s representative industries and traditional crafts, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary design rooted in the city’s cultural heritage.
