Taiwanese award-winning designers Nieh Yung-chen (聶永真) and Ho Chia-hsing (何佳興) were the featured guests of a design forum hosted by the Tokyo University of the Arts on Nov. 9.
Nieh and Ho delivered speeches on book design and exchanged ideas with Japanese designers Irobe Yoshiaki (色部義昭) and Hikaru Matsushita (松下計). The forum was followed by an after party for Taiwanese and Japanese professionals working in the design field, including university principal Miyata Ryohei (宮田亮平).
In partnership with the Ministry of Culture's Spotlight Taiwan project, the Tokyo University of the Arts published "T5-TAIWAN,” a book by Japanese scholar Keiichiro Fujisaki (藤崎圭一郎) that highlights Taiwan's book designs, publications, and unique bookstores.
With "T” standing for both "Taiwan” and "Top” in its book title, "T5-TAIWAN” by Fujisaki introduces the creativity of Taiwan's publishing professionals through interviews with designers Nieh, Ho, Wang Zhi-hong (王志弘), and Godki Dlla (小子), and Mistroom (霧室), a design studio based in Taipei.
Since 2013, the Tokyo University of the Arts has hosted joint art exhibitions between Taiwan and Japan as part of the Spotlight Taiwan project. Other project partners promoting Taiwanese culture in Japan include the Osaka-based National Museum of Ethnology, Aichi University, and the Yomiuri Shimbun.
