Taiwanese poet Ling Yu promotes French-translated poetry at Parisian night of literature

The 2023 Night of Literature (La nuit de la literature), organized by the Forum of Foreign Cultural Institutes in Paris (FICEP), took place in Paris on May 13 (local time). At the invitation of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, Taiwanese poet Ling Yu introduced her French-translated poetry book "Terres sauvages (The Pastoral)" at the literary event.

Born in Pinglin District, New Taipei City with the given name Wang Meei-chyn (王美琴), Ling Yu's poetries cover a wide variety of subjects, including history, family, and space, and studies life as well as the human condition. Her poetry collection "Daughters (女兒)" previously received the gold award of the Taiwan Literature Award as well as the 2022 OpenBook Award.

This year, the 2023 Night of Literature was attended by authors from 18 countries including Taiwan, Canada, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Besides inviting the authors onto the stage to share their creative process and introduce their works, the authors will also recite their works in French or in their native languages.

The Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris has presented several Taiwanese authors and works at the event in recent years, such as "Je te l'ai déjà dit (我告訴過你)" by Chen Yuhong (陳育虹), "Bookstore in a Dream (夢中邊陲)" by Lo Chih-cheng (羅智成), "Pearls (珍珠)" by Chi Ta-wei (紀大偉) and "War of the Bubbles (泡沫戰爭)" by Kao Yi-feng (高翊峰). By introducing Ling Yu's poetry collection this year, the Center hopes that it will allow foreign readers to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's diverse and rich literary landscape.

FICEP is an international non-governmental arts and cultural organization founded in 2002 by 58 cultural centers in Paris that share a network of arts and culture, with the aim of promoting the arts and culture of different countries. As one of the founding members, the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris actively participates in activities organized by FICEP every year to promote various art forms such as Taiwanese films, literature, comics, and music.
