Taiwanese dance company Shimmering Production (微光製造) and their Artistic Director Wang Yeu-kwn (王宇光) was invited by renowned British dance academy The Place to stay in London for a residency program. The team shared their inspiration and artistic journey with performing artists in the British capital in a workshop and sharing session on Oct. 20 and 24 respectively.
The Shimmering Production staged their choreography titled “A Quest for Relationship: Island of _________” (去你的島) at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) in 2023. They successfully grabbed the attention of The Place’s Artistic Director Eddie Nixon, and were later invited to London to further develop their work.
Showing his support, Director Chen Pin-chuan (陳斌全) of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. attended the dance company’s sharing session. He said that by surrounding in London’s vibrant art scene and collaborating with local professional institutions, the Division hopes to provide Taiwanese artists with opportunities to showcase their creations, thereby gaining international recognition and increasing their chances for overseas tours.
