To participate the dance film screening program titled “DANSE(S)” launched by the Forum des Instituts Culturels Etrangers à Paris (FICEP), the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris presented “Break&Break! (無用之地),” a dance film created by Taiwanese artist Chou Shu-yi (周書毅), to be screened at the Festival Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis on May 16 and 17.

FICEP was created in 2002 at the initiative of the Canadian Cultural Center to highlight its key role in promoting cultural diversity. This year, cultural centers from seven countries – Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, and Taiwan – invited representative artists from each country to participate in this screening program, which coincided with the theme of the human body in its permanent struggle through the different stages of life.

Chou Shu-yi, Taishin Arts Award winner, collaborated with the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) to create the 10-minute-long dance film “Break&Break!,” which transcends boundaries between theater and everyday life.

The Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris noted that, as a founding member of FICEP, the center aims to foster international art exchange and showcase Taiwan’s contemporary dance scene to the French audience.
