During the BD Comic Strip Festival from Sept. 6 to 8, Maison Autrique, a prominent Belgian cultural institution, showcased Taiwanese comics to local readers by featuring over 20 French-translated Taiwanese works at their exhibition booths.
Maison Autrique, known for its role in promoting comics and cultural heritage in Belgium, published a short comic titled “9.554km,” co-created by Taiwanese comic artist Sean Chuang (小莊) and Belgian comic artist Dimitri Piot.
Alexandra Rolland, Editor-in-Chief of the publication house, highlighted the diversity of Taiwanese comics, including their colorful expressions and exceptional drawing techniques.
Rolland also shared plans for a new comic publication aimed to invite comics artists from Taipei, Brussels, Paris, and Moscow to showcase the cultural heritage of their cities and foster intercultural dialogue.
Philippe Tzou (鄒宏平), the Wallonia and Brussels Trade Representative in Taiwan, noted that the Taiwanese comics exhibited at the festival were provided by Librairie Galerie Brusel, a renowned bookstore that has collaborated with Taiwan Creative Content Agency on nearly 40 comic translation projects.
