The Cultural Division of the Taiwan Representative Office (TRO) in Italy, in collaboration with Filmclub Bolzano, presented the Focus Taiwan program at the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen (BFFB) from Apr. 5 to 12. The program featured eight acclaimed Taiwanese feature films and documentaries, highlighting the diversity and cultural richness of Taiwanese cinema.
Curated by Vicenzo Bugno, artistic director of the BFFB, the lineup included “Goodbye, Dragon Inn (不散)” and “Days (日子)” by Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮), “Millennium Mambo (千禧曼波)” by Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), “Old Fox (老狐狸)” by Hsiao Ya-chuan (蕭雅全), “Gaga (哈勇家)” by Laha Mebow (陳潔瑤), “And Miles to Go Before I Sleep (九槍)” by Tsai Tsung-lung (蔡崇隆), among others.
The Cultural Division of the TRO in Italy noted that Taiwanese cinema has had a presence in Italy since the 1980s, and its participation in BFFB helps foster greater appreciation of Taiwanese culture among Italian filmmakers and audiences, while also expanding the reach of Taiwanese films in Europe.
