Russia | 'White Water' & 'Dust'

Taiwan's Cloud Gate Dance Theatre brought "White Water” and "Dust,” two new productions from 2014, to the Russian cities of St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Yekaterinburg from May 15 to 30.

"White Water” consists of 14 separate movements - mixed solos, duets, and other pairings - set to a host of piano scores. The white-clad performers are accompanied by a projection of gentle streams and ripples, offering audiences a quiet and immersive experience.

"Dust” is to darkness as "White Water” is to light. Set to Dmitri Shostakovich's "String Quartet No 8,” the 25-minute foray into post-apocalyptic hell is filled with writhing bodies and stained faces. The fragility and discord of mankind stand in contrast to the previous display of harmony.
