The Taiwan Academy in Houston and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) Film Society jointly organized Taiwan’s wuxia film exhibition titled “Blades & Ballet: King Hu and the Heroines of Wuxia” from Nov. 2 to 5, 2023.
The opening night was honored with the presence of the OKCMOA Director Michael Anderson, curator Lisa Broad, and the Chair of the Film and Media Studies Department of the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Man-Fung Yip. It kicked off with Director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s (侯孝賢) award-winning wuxia epic “The Assassin (刺客聶隱娘).”
Together with the opening film, the film exhibition screened seven films in total, including the late director King Hu’s (胡金銓) “Dragon Inn (龍門客棧),” “A Touch of Zen (俠女),” “The Fate of Lee Khan (迎春閣之風波),” “Raining In the Mountain (空山靈雨),” along with “Goodbye, Dragon Inn (不散)” directed by Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮) and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (臥虎藏龍)” directed by Ang Lee (李安).
The OKCMOA is devoted to promoting international film studies. The Samuel Roberts Noble Theater established by the museum focuses on displaying independent films, documentaries, and classic films from around the globe.
