3rd annual Taiwan Film Festival held in Toronto

Organized by the Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society, the 3rd Taiwan Film Festival in Toronto (TFFT) screened three Taiwanese movies "GATAO - The Last Stray (角頭-浪流連)," "I WeirDO (怪胎)," "Dad's Suit (老大人)" at Woodside Square from Sep. 17 to 19, offering the Canadian film lovers a glimpse into Taiwan’s diversified culture and society.

In light of the pandemic, the festival was held in the form of drive-in cinema, where audiences can enjoy Taiwanese films in the car. This year's selected films have different themes and both received rave reviews. The opening film "GATAO - The Last Stray" is a Taiwanese gangster movie, starring Cheng Jen-shuo (鄭人碩), Nikki Hsieh (謝欣穎), and Jack Kao (高捷) and Lung Shao-hua (龍劭華), a veteran actor who passed away on Sep. 14.

Additionally, on Sep. 16, the organizer invited director Ray Jiang (姜瑞智) and Cheng Jen-shuo to speak with Canadian fans online.

The main visual design of this year's film festival was again designed by Amy Tsai (蔡孟㯣), integrating the design of a pair of dragon and phoenix. Last year, she combined the concept of the movies with the Taiwanese retro carrier bag "Ga Ji La (茄芷袋)" in her designs, and won the 2021 Red Dot Design Award.

Taiwan Entrepreneurs Society stated that TFFT has showcased Taiwanese culture and films in the Greater Toronto Area. This festival has introduced an in-depth understanding of the culture between the Taiwan and Toronto communities through arts, movies and multi-media channels.
