Works by Taiwanese artists on display at Open Studios 2022

Taiwanese curator Ko Nien-pu (柯念璞), artists Lee Ying-chiun Lee and Wu Chien-hsing (吳建興) participated in this year's Open Studios event in New York, and joined 38 artists and curators from 28 countries currently in residence to present their interests of research and creation.

Ko and Lee started their residency program, International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in April; while Wu started his residency program in March and participated in Dumbo Open Studio this year.

Ko has worked as a curator on contemporary art, film, video, sound and interdisciplinary projects. Her research and curatorial practices focus on exploring moments of artistic imagination, archival mediation, and diasporic intelligence within the arena of international relations. She develops the collections and artistic dialogues locally and internationally to reflect the different elements of art history and culture from 20th century to now and explores its evolution and contemporary practices.

Lee holds a BFA in Architecture at Shih Chien University and an MFA in Glass from Rochester Institute of Technology. Her artwork explores the nexus of language and the erotic. Lee investigates ideas of sensuality through various imaging processes, methods of narrative, and storytelling. Her research relies on feminism theories, queer ecologies, and linguistics of Mandarin and English.

Born in Taiwan in 1987, Wu graduated from Chinese Culture University in Taipei with a Bachelor’s degree in 2011 and then obtained his Master’s degree of Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2017. He uses "domestic objects" to inscribe the memories of his own family history interwoven with the histories of the average middle-class family in the context of Taiwan's modernization. Wu's practice is motivated by self-exploration and creative methods that transform personal empirical memory into a medium that transforms life experiences.
