Taiwanese curator Chu Feng-yi (朱峯誼) and artists Huang I-hsiang (黃奕翔) and Chang Wen-woan (張文菀) embarked on art residency programs in New York City in March. They participated in a collaborative open studio event last weekend, showcasing their works to the public and engaging with peers from various countries.
Chu and Huang are currently taking part in the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York’s most comprehensive international visual arts residency program, founded in 1994.
Chu explores the integration of mysticism in art across cultures and eras through curatorial endeavors spanning exhibitions, research, and podcasts. His studies explore a variety of topics, including the contributions of mysticism to contemporary art movements such as futurism and ecofeminism.
Huang works with video, documentary, and spatial installations, using “site-specificity” as a core notion. His creations feature a mutually reflected chain of relationships between the body, space, and institution.
On the other hand, Chang is currently participating in the residency project offered by the Triangle Arts Association (TAA). TAA is a visual arts residency in New York founded in 1982, providing a life-changing working environment for committed artists through studio-based opportunities to experiment, create, and share.
Chang’s creations often involve the appropriation of art history to contrast with life experiences. Responding to questions and insights about daily life and art in a light-hearted and humorous manner, Chang attempts to challenge the viewer’s perception and engage in conceptual dialectics.
