Hung Dance’s ‘Birdy’ impresses audience at American Dance Festival

Hung Dance (翃舞製作), a Taiwanese dance group, staged their dance piece “Birdy (羽人)” at the Reynolds Industries Theater, as a part of the American Dance Festival (ADF) on June 14 and 15. The performances received positive responses from the U.S. audience, with a full house on both nights.

Since the debut of “Birdy” in 2017, the production has received several international accolades and has been featured at various renowned art festivals in different countries, including the Festival Off Avignon in France. The choreography integrates elements from both Eastern and Western traditions, creating a unique and poetic work.

Additionally, Hung Dance collaborated with the ADF to conduct masterclass workshops, teaching 32 participants at the ADF summer camp the techniques used in “Birdy,” further showcasing the beauty of Taiwan’s contemporary dance.

The Ministry of Culture also invited 12 art professionals from the U.S. and Canada, including program directors from art festivals and organizations in New York, Houston, Dallas, Denver, and Vancouver, to attend the performances, thereby increasing the exposure of Hung Dance in the North American art market.
