Taiwanese dance group debuts at Battery Dance Festival in New York

Taiwanese Dance Group Focus Dance Company (焦點舞團) performed their piece “Self-Portrait (自畫像)” at the Battery Dance Festival in Rockefeller Park, New York City, on Aug. 11.

Lee Chih-chiang (李志強), the Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, noted that this marks the first time a Taiwanese dance group has been featured at the Battery Dance Festival. He expressed his delight at seeing outstanding young dancers from Taiwan share their perspectives on Taiwanese culture through dance.

Wu Yi-san (吳易珊), the director of Focus Dance Company, explained that “Self-Portrait,” choreographed by Hung Tsai-hsi (洪綵希), depicts the internal struggles of the young dancers.

30 dance groups from eight countries, including Taiwan, the U.S., Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and India, were invited to perform at the festival from Aug. 11 to 17. Additionally, Taiwanese choreography Yeh Chen-jung (葉承融) was featured in the “Young Voices in Dance” program.
