MoCCA Arts Festival, the most influential independent comics showcase on the East Coast of the United States, was held on Mar. 15 and 16, attracting nearly 10,000 comic book fans to explore some of the most creative and unique works in independent comics. With support from the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Taiwanese artists Ding Pao-yen (丁柏晏) and Chen Pei-hsiu (陳沛珛) were invited to the festival, captivating international readers with their unique artistic styles.
Known for his fantastical realist style and meticulous linework, Ding Pao-yen combines fantasy elements with intricate details to create a unique and evocative visual experience. His first English-translated comics anthology, “Not Ready for Life,” was published in the U.S. and sold out on the first day of the festival. Chen Pei-hsiu, meanwhile, is recognized for her delicate portrayals and nuanced expression of everyday emotions. Her warm and refined style resonated strongly with American readers.
The Taipei Cultural Center in New York noted that through their participation in the MoCCA Festival, Taiwanese artists not only successfully showcased their works on the international stage but also strengthened ties with American readers, the art community, and publishers. Looking ahead, they will continue to promote Taiwanese comics so that global audiences can discover their unlimited creatve potential.
