The Ministry of Culture joined hands with the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to organize the Taiwan Expo USA 2022 in Washington D.C. from Oct. 12 to 14. Through 83 enterprises and artistic works from Taiwan, the exposition demonstrated Taiwan’s technologies and rich culture.
The Diabolo Dance Theatre (舞鈴劇場), regarded as Taiwan's Cirque du Soleil, performed at the opening ceremony, presenting a mixture of oriental acrobats and western contemporary dance. Having been invited to perform in more than 30 countries, this summer, the Diabolo Dance Theatre was selected to stage for the Taiwan Season program at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Ten exhibition sectors and a series of forums were organized at the exposition aiming to show different aspects of Taiwan and promote exchanges deepening ties between Taiwan and the United States.
Among the theme pavilions, the cultural section planned and designed by the General Association of Chinese Culture adopted the idea of traditional temple culture and showcased the religious beliefs as well as the humanities and cultures, natural landscapes, and history of Taiwan. For the Taiwan Craft and Design section, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute exhibited artifacts from Taiwanese craftsmen under the theme of "Green Talk." Combining materials of grass, wood, earth, and gold with innovative technologies, the section responded to the recycling and sustainable trend.
TAITRA stated that, besides demonstrating the hard and soft power of Taiwan’s industries, the Taiwan Expo also incorporated cultural elements, breaking the previous format of business fairs and traditional exhibitions. Tourism, cuisine, and marine culture were covered to introduce the diversity of Taiwan to mainstream society in the United States, allowing visitors to get a deeper understanding of Taiwan's technological strength and cultural innovation.
