Designated as a national historic site in 2015, the Taipei Railway Workshop, which has accumulated the heritage of more than a century of industrial technology, is today reborn in the form of the national railway museum. The preparatory office was established in August 2019, with the following functions:
1. Master planning for the establishment of the National Railway Museum
2. Collect, research, preserve, maintain, display, educate, promote railway technologies and culture-related artifacts and materials as well as establish networks
3. Deployment of public services
4. Plan, design, procure and supervise the construction of the National Railroad Museum and its facilities
5. Other matters related to the establishment of the National Railway Museum
