Thao harvest festival receives national recognition

For the Thao, every August on the lunar calendar marks the start of the Thao New Year, and the Thao people will come return to their hometown for celebration. The priestess in the tribe will host a ritual to worship “ulalaluwan” for peace and protection. The tribesmen have to join an “arms-cleansing” ritual to get rid of bad luck from the past year. An annual archery contest is also held to settle friendly rivals between men. The Ministry of Culture highly respects the Thao cultural heritage, and hopes that traditions will be passed down from generation to generation after the “Lus’an” has been designated as a national folk custom.
