'Wu Chang-jung: Ringtones'

Wu Chang-jung’s (吳長蓉) project “Ringtones,” one of the winning projects in the 2016 Digital Art Creation Competition Program, will be on display at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts from Nov. 5 through March 19, 2017.

“Ringtones” is Wu’s second project to win the NTMoFA competition. The work was inspired by Wu’s own experience of being disturbed by ringing phones held by passengers riding the Taipei Metro. The experience prompted Wu to capture the moment when mobile phone users received messages or heard ringtones in the Xinyi District.

The video will show how the movement of pedestrians and cars are interrupted or stopped by a sudden ringtone just like being paused by a button, and how the whole city is influenced and even controlled by technology.
