Asia’s longest-running global art fair to light up Taipei

The 26th Art Taipei fair will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center from Oct. 18 through 21, with the opening ceremony scheduled for the afternoon of Oct. 17. This year, the exhibition has invited 141 top galleries from 12 different countries to exhibit their works in Taiwan and hold art lectures that resonate with the fair theme of "Reproduction of Light."

Taiwan's vibrant democracy and freedom of expression have created a diverse and receptive creative environment that is propelling Taiwanese artistic growth. As the longest-running international art exhibition in Asia, Art Taipei is an important promoter of Taiwan's art market and an open platform for foreign and domestic artists and art galleries to collaborate, scale new peaks, and cultivate new collectors.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, the "Made in Taiwan Young Artist Themed Exhibition" aims to promote up-and-coming new artists and showcase Taiwan's explosive young energy. Moreover, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, more than 800 art teachers and students from rural schools and art academies will be given discounted admission to participate in a one-day educational excursion to Art Taipei.

This year's exhibition sectors are rich and diverse: "Galleries" is the main exhibition area displaying works from established art galleries; "Public Art" is for large-scale sculptures and installations; "Art Spectrum" is on art trends and art societies from different countries; "Made In Taiwan" is dedicated to Taiwan’s young artists and their works; and the invitation-based "ASIA+" focuses exclusively on the Asian art scene.

Art Taipei will also be holding Art Salon events for on-site artists, curators, and art critics to exchange ideas and discuss their creative journeys with participants. The Art Salon events will address issues ranging from Taiwanese art development from the 1980s to the 2000s following the lifting of martial law, to the construction planning of sculptures and installations, and many other narrative topics that showcase the diverse aspects of contemporary arts.

Lastly, the "Special Project of Art Foundations" sector will be showcasing Xue Xue Foundation's (學學文創意基金會) Zodiac paintings collection; Dimension Endowment Of Art's (帝門藝術教育基金) 30th-anniversary special exhibition; Egret Culture and Education Foundation's (白鷺鷥文教基金會) Taiwanese cultural presentation of music, dance, and visual arts; and Taipei Artist Village's (台北國際藝術村) exhibition on works by affiliated artists.
