TAIWANESE WRITER JOINS IOWA RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Taiwanese writer Chung Wenyin, author of the “The Island Trilogy,” will be joining the International Writing Program in Iowa, the world’s oldest and most-established writing residency of its kind, this August.


TAIWAN, HK ORCHESTRAS TO STAGE PEACE CONCERTS

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) will collaborate with the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan on a peace-themed concert in September.


TAIWAN'S LINEUP FOR THE 2015 SUMMER SONIC

Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu will lead metal band Flesh Juicer and rock trio Sorry Youth to join the 2015 Summer Sonic, one of the largest international rock music festivals in Japan.


SPAIN TO HOST TAIWANESE CERAMIC ARTS

An exhibition on Taiwanese ceramic arts — “Elogio de la Cultura: El arte de la cerámica taiwanesa pintada” — will be shown from July 10 to Aug. 23 at the Spanish city of Valencia.


TAIWANESE TRIO TO PERFORM CLASSIC MUSIC IN LA

A trio of classically trained Taiwanese musicians — violinist Hung Yin-chou, cellist Pan Wan-yi, and pianist Cheng I-hsuan — will hold a live performance at the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles on Aug. 1.


'A RETROSPECTIVE OF SIEUR AUGUSTIN TZEN'

A retrospective exhibition on Sieur Augustin Tzen, one of the early adopters of conceptualism in Taiwan, will be held at the National Museum of History from July 28 through Oct. 11.


'RENOVATION & REFORM'

“Renovation and Reform,” a special exhibition at the National Museum of Taiwan History, will lead visitors to revisit 19th-century Taiwanese society through its collection of historic images, maps, manuscripts, and illustrations.


'TRANSFORMATIONS IN 1895'

To mark the 120th anniversary of the Japanese Conquest of Taiwan, the NMTH has organized an exhibition to introduce how people with different cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic positions viewed the era of 1895.


'THE LI POETRY SOCIETY'

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Li Poetry Society, the Tainan-based National Museum of Taiwan Literature will host a retrospective exhibition from July 8 through Aug. 23.


QIDONG SALON CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY

To celebrate its first year of establishment, the Qidong Poetry Salon will host a month-long series of poetry recitals and forums for writers running from Aug. 1 through 29.
