MINISTER'S RESIGNATION STATEMENT

There is only one first mile for the Culture Ministry, and one final mile for my mother. With the fulfillment of the original intentions I held when accepting my appointment, I am filled with gratitude upon returning to a literati's quiet desk.


TAIWANESE CELLIST, CHOIR IN SINGAPORE

Taiwanese cellist Chang Tao-wen and the Bunun Mountain Traditional Music Chorus will be featured in three upcoming concerts and a workshop at the “Voices, A Festival of Song” organized by Singapore’s Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.


STUDENT-MADE SHORT FILMS IN FRANCE

Six short films by Taiwanese art students will be screened at the Poitiers Film Festival in France from Nov. 28 to Dec. 7. The festival will also screen one of director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s all-time classics, 'Three Times.'


HISTORIC 1903 TEXT ON TAIWAN

The National Museum of Taiwan History has published a two-volume Chinese translation of “The Island of Formosa, Past and Present,” a history written by the renowned American explorer James W. Davidson in 1903.


'21ST CONFERENCE OF THE PHA'

The 21st biennial conference of the Pacific History Association (PHA) will take place in Taipei, the northern capital city, and Taitung, the cradle of Austronesian culture in southeastern Taiwan, from Dec. 3 through 6.


'MASPALAW - SAISIYAT ARTIFACTS'

A total of 47 artifacts, including textiles, rattan-woven containers, paper relics, and weapons dated between the 19th and early 20th century, will be exhibited in Miaoli to show the elegance of indigenous Saisiyat artifacts.


'THE DREAM OF CRAFT'

“The Dream of Craft” comprises of four sections — 2014 National Crafts Exhibition winners, Taiwan Design Center designers, the 2013 Crafts Achievement Awards recipient, and the Taiwan Good Craft “C-Mark” competition selection.


'FRESH TAIWAN'

To showcase the most innovative lifestyle products made in Taiwan, as well as the Ministry of Culture’s role in assisting the cultural and creative sector’s international expansion, a special exhibition will be held at Huashan from Dec. 4 to 14.


'NATIONAL MEMORIES: ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY'

The exhibition slated for Nov. 28 to Dec. 25 at the Qidong Poetry Salon will display the results of the National Memories Database Project, which was initiated a year ago to collect the stories of the Taiwanese people.


ACCELERATE@CERN: OPEN CALL

To promote innovative cross-field cooperation in science and the arts, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Culture and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) have come together to create Accelerate@CERN TAIWAN.
