ART TAIPEI celebrates 24th anniversary
ART TAIPEI, the longest running art fair in Asia, kicked off on Oct. 20 in Taipei with an emphasis on 'Asian Vision' and the return of large galleries and private museums as the leaders of contemporary Asian art trends.
Film festival, museum to promote human rights
The 2017 Taiwan International Human Rights Film Festival kicked off on Oct. 14 in Taipei's in89 Cinemax to commemorate Taiwan's third decade free of martial law and to pave the way for the upcoming National Human Rights Museum.

The Ministry of Culture celebrated Taiwanese Culture Day on Oct. 17 with a Taichung concert presenting a repertoire of songs penned by the forbearers of Taiwanese consciousness and nativist music.

Chiang Wei-shui was a doctor and democracy pioneer who spearheaded several cultural movements against Japanese colonial rule. He was dubbed 'Taiwan’s Sun Yat-sen' for his role in Taiwan's cultural enlightenment and promotion of human rights.

Tsai Pei-huo was an activist who strove for Taiwanese people's autonomy during the Japanese colonial period. He helped promote freedom of association and speech, and composed more than 30 songs to advocate democracy and Taiwanese identity.
