TAIWAN TO SHOW ITS NATURAL COLORS

Two world-class forums on fiber arts opened in Taiwan on Oct. 14. Featuring roughly 400 industry professionals from 28 countries, the forums will be accompanied by workshops, exhibitions, and handicraft booths.


DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL CELEBRATES OPENNESS

The 9th Taiwan Int'l Documentary Festival, which will run from Oct. 9 through 19, will hold over 240 screenings across the Greater Taipei area to showcase 134 documentaries from around the world.


2014 GOLDEN INDIE AWARDS

Taiwanese celebrities, including metal band CHTHONIC and singer Landy Wen, teamed up on Oct. 14 to announce the nominees of the 2014 Golden Indie Music Awards and to rally support for Taiwan’s songwriters and music producers.


NMTL CELEBRATES 11TH ANNIVERSARY

The National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL), Taiwan’s first national-level institute dedicated to the preservation and promotion of native literature, will celebrate its 11th anniversary on Oct. 17, 2014.


NY CITYSCAPE UNDER TAIWANESE LENS

Taiwanese photography Jeff Chien-hsing Liao will hold his first solo exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York, in which his works will reflect his unique perspective on the energy-charged metropolitan life of New York.


'THE ECONOMY OF CHARACTER FORUM'

Professionals in such fields as character creation, branding, and character management in Japan’s character business industry will attend a Taipei forum and provide their insights on the trend and share their practical experiences.


'ECOLUTION OF TAIWAN FIBER ART'

A crafts exhibition named “Ecolution,” a portmanteau of “ecology” and “evolution,” will showcase the beauty of Taiwan’s fiber arts in central Taiwan from Oct. 2 through March 15, 2015.


'REVISITING ART STOCK 20'

Former artists-in-residence at the Art Stock 20, an old railway warehouse in Taichung City that was converted into an art village, will return to the village for an exhibition that chronicles the 14-year art residency program.


'2014 KAOHSIUNG FILM FESTIVAL'

The 2014 Kaohsiung Film Festival will be screening 170 films under 16 different categories from Oct. 24 through Nov. 9. A mobile app will also be made available to allow viewers to remote stream the film festival’s selection this year.


'2014 BITTERSWEET LIFE FESTIVAL'

“The 2014 Bittersweet Life Festival – A Poverty-free Generation Program,” an afternoon program sponsored by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, will be held at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on Oct. 18.
