'TAIWAN TODAY': PERFORMANCE SERIES IN DRESDEN

Five renowned Taiwanese art groups — Cloud Gate, Dance Forum Taipei, Taipei Male Choir, Horse Dance Theater, and U-theatre — will perform in a yearlong contemporary arts program billed as “Taiwan Today' in Dresden, Germany.


TAIWANESE STAGE PLAY TO SHOW IN EUROPE

Director Tsai Ming-liang's new stage play, which is aimed at inspiring audiences to “rethink life” and embrace “slowness,” will partake in prominent art festivals at the European cultural capitals of Brussels and Venice.


FRENCH GALLERY CURATES TAIWANESE ART

The Frédéric Moisan Gallery in Paris will host a joint exhibition from April 30 to May 17 featuring four Taiwanese artists and their photography, sketches, and installation works that express their grasp of the human condition.


TAIWAN-BASED FILMMAKERS SHINE IN NEW YORK

Two films from Taiwan will be shown at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival: Myanmar-born and Taiwan-based filmmaker Midi Z’s 'Ice Poison,” and Malaysian-Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang’s “Journey to the West.”


TEACHING HUMAN RIGHTS THROUGH DOCUMENTARIES

To preserve the nation’s oral history and educate the next generation, the National Human Rights Museum has released a series of documentaries that tell the poignant stories of the survivors of Taiwan's White Terror period.


TAIWAN DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL: CALL FOR ENTRIES

The annual Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF), one of the top professional platforms in Asia for documentaries, will accept entries from today until May 30, 2014.


‘THE TIMELESS BLUEPRINTS’

“The Timeless Blueprints of the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall,” an exhibition reviewing the historical context of Taipei City’s most memorable landmark, will run from April 18 through Oct. 27.


'DAYS IN JIUFEN (1963 - 2006)'

As a tribute to Wong Ting-hua, an important documentary photographer in Taiwan, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts will hold a two-month exhibition titled “Days in Jiufen” featuring Wong’s original silver halide prints.


'UNHINDERED' EXPERIMENTAL CALLIGRAPHY

Taiwanese artist Huang Yang, who holds a doctor’s degree in calligraphy, will hold a solo exhibition featuring calligraphy of pop music lyrics from April 12 to 30 at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.


‘THE 2014 NATIONAL STUDENT ART COMPETITION’

A total of 347 award-winning artworks in seven categories — pencil sketches, Western painting, graphic design, ink painting, calligraphy, prints, and comics — will be on display in southeastern Taiwan.
