THE 2014 ANGOULEME COMIC FESTIVAL

The Ministry will help sponsor 7 Taiwanese comic artists to participate in the 41st Angouleme International Comics Festival in France, where the delegation will help promote the growing diversity of Taiwanese graphic arts.


CITATION ISSUED FOR LEE TAI-HSIANG

In recognition of his contributions to Taiwan’s music scene, the late Taiwanese musician Lee Tai-hsiang has been awarded a posthumous presidential citation. Lee will be remembered for his fusion of different music and cultures.


‘STRAY DOGS’ TO HIT TAIWAN CINEMAS

Director Tsai Ming-liang has finally given the nod for his film 'Stray Dogs' to be shown in local cinemas, more than four months after it hit the spotlight in Venice. There will be 50 screenings in Taiwan from Feb. 21 to March 2.


‘COLOR HORSE’ IN NANTOU

Families are welcome to join the celebrations during the Chinese New Year holidays at the national crafts center in Nantou County, the organizer of a series of festive events and activities from Feb. 1 through 4.


‘FU CHENG ARTS & CULTURE FORUM’

The “Fu Cheng Arts & Culture Forum,” a series of speeches launched by the Tainan-based National Museum of Taiwan Literature, will again invite artists and scholars in the humanities field to speak about arts and culture this year.


‘CHINESE NEW YEAR PAPER-CUTTING EXHIBITION’

An annual paper-cutting exhibition will take place at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall during the Chinese New Year holidays, which fall between Jan. 31 and Feb. 4 this year.


‘THE 120TH ANNIVERSARY: CHEN CHENG-PO’

To commemorate the life of Chen Cheng-po, a Taiwanese painter killed during a 1947 government crackdown, an exhibition will open in Tainan on Jan. 18, and head to Beijing, Shanghai, and Tokyo for the latter half of the year.


‘WEST AFRICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL’

The Taiwan-based Sibongie African Drumming Crew will stage a free performance at the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts on Feb. 8. The repertoire will include a Taiwanese song adapted from a West African farmer's song.


'JOAN MIRO: WOMEN, BIRDS, STARS'

“Joan Miró: Women, Birds, Stars” – an international exhibition featuring the famed Spanish surrealist – will be held at the Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts from Jan. 18 through April 27.
