With support from the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Taiwanese artist Ping-Hsiang Wang and choreographer Chou Kuan Jou will appear at the SummerWorks Performance Festival in Toronto, Canada, which runs from Aug. 6 to 16.
Battery Dance Festival, the longest-running free public dance festival in New York City, will take place at Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Park from Aug. 10 to 16. Now in its 45th edition, the festival will feature Taiwan’s Mailantia Dance Company.
The Taiwan Academy of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, in partnership with Louisa Coffee USA, is hosting the joint exhibition “The Great Mother’s Dream: Metamorphosis as Power and Wisdom” from May 12 to Aug. 17.

The Ministry of Culture (MOC) announced the finalists for the 17th Golden Comic Awards (GCA) on Aug. 10, along with this year’s Special Contribution Award recipient, Richard Metson.

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) hosted the final presentation of the Villa Formose residency program on Aug. 8, featuring French curator Danilo Lovisi. Lovisi is participating in the program in Taiwan from July 13 to Aug. 13.

The National Railway Museum (NRM) opened the exhibition “Rebirth: The Blue Train on Stage” on Aug. 8. It features a stage adaptation of writer Tuan Tsai-hua’s eponymous short story, “The Human Touch,” presented by the Greenray Theater Company. 
Cultural Features
Hsu Yu-fu is an iconic figure in the natural lacquer industry of Puli Township, Nantou County. He is now the oldest practitioner who has steadfastly dedicated his life to the craft. He entered the field as a teenager and inherited the family legacy, persevering through both the industry’s decline and the devastation of the 1999 Jiji earthquake.

Located in Duxingshi Village Cultural Park, Penghu Bookstore is an independent bookstore opened in 2022 in Magong City of Penghu, one of Taiwan’s outlying islands. The bookstore is housed in what was once a military dependents’ village, which had gradually been abandoned over time.
