UK PARTNERS JOIN 'SPOTLIGHT TAIWAN' PROJECT

The Birkbeck constitute college of the University of London, the University of Surrey, and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester (CFCCA) have joined the Ministry of Culture’s Spotlight Taiwan initiative.


TAIWAN'S LINEUP FOR THE 2014 OFF D'AVIGNON

Four Taiwanese performance groups will participate in the 2014 OFF Festival d’Avignon in France. This year will mark the eighth year of Taiwan’s participation in the famed summer festival, which will run from July 5 to 27.


ICONIC TAIWANESE NOVEL AVAILABLE IN THE U.S.

The American edition of Taiwanese author Wu Ming-yi’s “The Man with Compound Eyes” has been greeted with critical acclaim. The novel is also available in French under the Ministry’s Taiwan Literature Translation Project.


MIDI Z UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT IN LA ROCHELLE

Taiwan-based film director Midi Z will enjoy the limelight at the 2014 La Rochelle International Film Festival, where he has been selected as the featured filmmaker for the “Discovery” (Decouverte) segment of the French festival.


OIL PAINTINGS FROM TAIWAN TO SHOW IN NY

Taiwanese artist Huang Hai-hsin has been invited to hold a solo exhibition by the New York-based Leigh Wen Fine Art gallery. Her oil paints will be showcased under the event title “Hay Fever” from June 26 to July 17.


COUNTDOWN TO THE OPENING OF THE XIQU CENTER

A large-scale performance program offering 100 different activities was launched at the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA) on June 21 as a countdown for the soon-to-be-completed Xiqu Center of Taiwan.


'THE 2014 NATIONAL ART EXHIBITION OF THE R.O.C.'

The 4th National Art Exhibition of the Republic of China will be held from June 21 to Aug. 24 at the Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts to showcase 168 winning works of a nationwide open call.


'INHERITANCE & REFINEMENT'

Exceedingly elegant gouache paintings by Taiwanese artist Chao Shih-chuan will be showcased at the Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts’ “Inheritance & Refinement” exhibition between June 28 and Aug. 24.


'THE 2014 TAIPEI PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS'

Organized by the Photographic Society of Taipei, the winning works of the 2014 Taipei Photography Awards will be displayed at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall between June 17 and 29.


'THE 2014 GOLDEN MUSIC FESTIVAL'

The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development will hold the first-ever Global Music Festival to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Asia’s biggest pop music affair — the Golden Melody Awards.
