HISTORIC AIR-RAID SHELTER

Acting Culture Minister Hung Meng-chi inspected the Chushan Precinct of the Nantou County Police Bureau to understand how the Chushan Precinct will preserve an historic air-raid shelter at its new construction site.


FAMED WRITER TO KICKOFF CULTURAL FORUM

The 2015 Fucheng Arts & Culture Forum hosted by the Tainan-based National Museum of Taiwan Literature will kick off with National Cultural Award winner Kenneth Hsien-yung Pai on Jan. 24.


LATE HAKKA FOLK SINGER WILL BE MISSED

Hakka folk singer Lai Pi-hsia passed away on Jan. 18 at the age of 83. The representative figure for traditional Hakka mountain songs will be remembered for making the continuation of Hakka cultural heritage her lifetime work.


MATCHING PERFORMERS WITH VENUES

The Ministry of Culture will offer subsidies totaling NT$16.65 million to selected performing groups under its flagship program to match such groups with performance venues across Taiwan and its outlying islands in 2015.


10 CHINA-MADE FILMS TO SCREEN IN TAIWAN

The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Development has announced a list of 10 Chinese films that have been approved for commercial screenings this year. A lottery system determined the films and their screening order.


U. OF EDINBURGH RENEWS COMMITMENT

The University of Edinburgh has signed a new agreement to continue its cooperation in the Ministry’s Spotlight Taiwan project. This year the university will hold film screenings, concerts, and exhibitions featuring Taiwan’s diverse culture.


ACCELERATE@CERN: OPEN CALL

To promote cross-field cooperation in science and the arts, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Culture and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) have come together to create Accelerate@CERN TAIWAN.


'THE WILDSCREEN FESTIVAL'

A selection of productions screened at the UK-based Wildscreen Festival and Panda Awards, known as the Oscars of the natural history and wildlife film industry, will be shown in Taipei from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8.


'2015 TAIWAN INT'L DRUMMING FESTIVAL'

To bring different performing styles to Taiwan during the Chinese New Year holidays, the 2015 Taiwan International Drumming Festival in Kaohsiung will feature percussionists from Taiwan, China, Japan, and France.


'FABIAN MULLER'S TAIWAN IMAGES'

The National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) will perform music composed by Swiss composer Fabian Müller, who re-arranged Taiwanese folk songs with cello and string music. The two concerts will take place on Jan. 23 and 24.
