Curtain rises on the 5th Taiwan Film Festival Berlin

The Taiwan Film Festival Berlin (TFFB) will enter its fifth edition this year, which will take place physically in Berlin, Germany from Sep. 23 to Oct. 2. With the support from the Ministry of Culture, the 2022 edition is centered around the theme of "Island Fantasia (島嶼奇幻)," in the hope of exploring various social issues through the films with diverse themes.

Organized by Impression Taiwan, TFFB will screen 12 Taiwanese films, including eight drama films and four short films. The lineup ranges from "Till We Meet Again (月老)," "Gold Fish (金魚)," "Night Bus (夜車)," "Mama Pingpong Social Club (媽媽桌球)," "Temple of Devilbuster (伏魔殿)," and "Goddamned Asura (該死的阿修羅)," and more. At the festival, these films are sorted into three main themes: "Super Oma," "Fantastic Horror" and "Wild Youth: Taiwan & Hong Kong," with an additional special screening of "Listen Before You Sing (聽見哥在唱)."

The films "Nina Wu (灼人秘密)" by director Midi Z (趙德胤) and "Dear Tenant (親愛的房客)" by director Cheng Yu-chieh (鄭有傑) are chosen as the opening and closing films of the festival, respectively. Inspired by the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the #MeToo movement in Korea and Japan, "Nina Wu" revolves around a girl, Nina, who dreams of becoming an actress; however, an audition that she finally got subsequently leads her into a world of adventure, thrills and fear.

Established in 2017, the Taiwan Film Festival is one of the largest festivals in Europe that offers a vital platform for Taiwan's diverse film scene. Aside from the film screenings, TFFB will also present multifaceted programs, discussions and discussions with filmmakers and experts from the Far East.
