Eslite Malaysia to host Taiwanese Literature Seminars in May and June

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, in collaboration with Eslite Bookstore, will host a series of Taiwanese Literature Seminars in May and June, inviting four renowned authors – Chu Yu-hsun (朱宥勳), Ma Yi-hang (馬翊航), Liu Ka-shiang (劉克襄), and Ma Shih-fang (馬世芳) – to Malaysia to engage and exchange with local readers.

In 2022, Eslite Bookstore inaugurated its Kuala Lumpur branch, marking its debut in Southeast Asia. The store offers a diverse array of multilingual selections, comprehensive Chinese titles, and various seminars catering to Malaysian book enthusiasts.

The seminars will kick off with Chu Yu-hsun’s discourse on May 4, elaborating on the overall trend of Taiwanese novels over the past decade. The following day, Chu will engage in an author talk with Malaysian writer Gong Wan-hui (龔萬輝).

On May 11, Ma Yi-hang, a member of the indigenous Puyuma people, will deliver a seminar and share his observations and inspiration derived from writing in his mother tongue.

June 1 will feature Liu Ka-shiang, an expert in Taiwan’s culture and nature, who will share the tales of his explorations across the country, whether by train or by foot.

Finally, on June 15 and 16, Ma Shih-fang, a multitalented writer-broadcaster, will present talks about Taiwan’s cuisine and culture.
