Starting in March, the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), a governmental bureau under the Finnish Ministry of Education, will launch an annual screening program featuring Taiwanese classic films at Kino Regina, a cinema in Finland, marking the first time that KAVI has promoted Taiwanese films as a special topic.
The spring program will showcase a range of Taiwanese wuxia films from the 1960s to 1970s. The selection includes notable films by director King Hu (胡金銓), including "Dragon Inn (龍門客棧)," "Legend of the Mountain (山中傳奇)," "Raining in the Mountain (空山靈雨)," "A Touch of Zen (俠女)," and "The Valiant Ones (忠烈圖)." Other films in the lineup include "The Swordsman of All Swordsmen (一代劍王)" by director Joseph Kuo (郭南宏), "A City Called Dragon (龍城十日)” by director Tu Chung-hsun (屠忠訓), "Iron Mistress (鐵娘子)" by director Sung Tsun-shou (宋存壽), "The Ghost Hill (十萬金山)," by director Ting Shan-hsi (丁善璽), "The Vengeance of the Phoenix Sisters (三鳳震武林)" by director Chen Hung-min (陳洪民), and more.
The screenings will be accompanied by scholarly lectures, providing local audiences with a better understanding of classic Taiwanese cinema. Subsequently, KAVI will collaborate with the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK to present a special topic on Taiwan's pivotal contemporary directors and new movies during the summer and autumn seasons.
KAVI is a central governmental agency under the Ministry of Education and Culture.
