World-famous 'Casa Mila' to hold the first exhibition from Taiwan

With the support of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, the Chi-Wen Gallery will be participating in the 19th edition of the LOOP FAIR (LOOP國際錄像藝術博覽會), presenting "Ode to the Taipei Biennial (台北雙年展之歌)" by Taiwanese new media artist Yu Cheng-ta (余政達) at the Casa Mila in the city of Barcelona from Nov 16 to 18.

In celebration of Taipei Biennial's 20th anniversary, Yu was invited by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2006 to create the single-channel video installation titled "Ode to the Taipei Biennial." Taking the 1996 Taipei Biennial as a starting point, Yu adapted the exhibition statements into acapella, with the aim of introducing Taiwanese contemporary art and forging international connections.

Born in Tainan in 1983, Yu has always been interested in the cultural differences that arise from languages. Through his works, he deals with the question of identity and rights that are brought about by the rupture of languages. Chi-wen Gallery has been promoting Taiwanese contemporary art for many years, and it also actively introduces experimental new media creations to the international stage. The curator Huang Chi-wen (黃其玟) said that the gallery has been participating in the LOOP Fair since 2006, exhibiting the works of artist Chen Chieh-jen (陳界仁).

Founded in 2003, LOOP is a platform dedicated to the study and promotion of the moving image. It offers a curated selection of video-related content from challenging perspectives, teaming up with an international community of artists, curators, gallerists, collectors and institution directors to develop projects. Casa Mila is a unique residential building designed by the famous Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudí. It is characterized by its organic-like undulating façade and surrealist sculptural roof.
