Inaugurated on Mar. 1, the 19th Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF) hosted the Taiwan Night event on Mar. 7, marking the inclusion of seven Taiwanese films this year through the special program “Taiwan: Movies on the Move 2024.” The festival was held from Mar. 1 to 10.
This year, OAFF featured a selection of 63 films from 24 countries and regions. The special program highlights the international premiere of renowned director Wei Te-sheng’s (魏德聖) “BIG.” Additionally, “The Winter of 1905 (1905年的冬天),” directed by Yu Wei-cheng (余為政), is a digitally remastered film from 1981, notable for featuring the late director Edward Yang as the scriptwriter and in a cameo role.
Furthermore, other chosen films from Taiwan include Lan Yi-tzu’s (藍憶慈) “The Horse (馬語),” Wu Zi-en’s (吳季恩) “Right Jabs (我可以暫時逃跑一下嗎?),” Lien Chien-hung’s (練建宏) “Salli (莎莉),” Chin Chia-hua’s (靳家驊) “Trouble Girl (小曉),” and “A Journey in Spring (春行)” by Wang Ping-wen (王品文) and Peng Tzu-hui (彭紫惠).
