NYU presents Reel Taiwan program, highlighting Taiwanese women filmmakers

The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University hosted the Reel Taiwan program from Nov. 17 to 19, 2023. The program featured the works of five women filmmakers from Taiwan, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Women Make Waves International Film Festival (WMWIFF) of Taiwan.

The Reel Taiwan included “Of East and West (高飛)” directed by Chou She-wei (周旭薇), “Spring Cactus (真情狂愛)” by Huang Yu-shan (黃玉珊), “Fresh Kill (鮮殺)” by Cheang Shu-lea (鄭淑麗), “God, Man, Dog (流浪神狗人)” by Singing Chen (陳芯宜), and “Come Home, My Child (愛子歸來)” by Jasmine Lee Ching-hui (李靖惠).

The largest of its kind in Asia, the WMWIFF has promoted and nourished countless women filmmakers from around the world for three decades. The Reel Taiwan program joins the celebrations that took place in Taipei, Paris, and elsewhere. It also provides the happy occasion for a “homecoming” reunion of several filmmakers who studied at Tisch School of the Arts before they launched their fruitful careers.
