Culture Minister Shih Che visited Taichung City for the partial opening of National Taiwan Museum of Comics (NTMC) on Dec. 19. He announced that the eastern compound of the museum will open for public visit starting Dec. 23 and the northern compound is expected to inaugurate in 2029.

The NTMC will kick off eight thematic exhibitions, delivering an immersive experience for comic reading through eight different ways. Besides, three highlight spaces will be featured in the exhibition area, creating different kinds of atmospheres illuminated with special light and sound designs. Additionally, traces of “Barkley the Cat”—an animated character created by animator Chiu Li-wei (邱立偉)—could be found throughout the compound, such as on the walls or in the bushes.

Minister Shih expects that, through the NTMC’s thematic exhibitions, the past, present, and future of comics could converge and lead visitors to enjoy the wonder of comic reading.
