MOC laments the passing of Echo magazine publisher Huang Yung-sung

The publisher and art director of Echo magazine (漢聲雜誌) Huang Yung-sung (黃永松) passed away on Mar. 4 at the age of 81. Culture Minister Shih Che expressed his condolences upon hearing this news. He commended Huang’s invaluable contribution to preserving folk culture, including traditional crafts, monuments, and photography. 

 

Huang, born in Longtan District, Taoyuan City, in 1943, was an outstanding cultural worker honored with the 9th Presidential Culture Award. Besides Echo magazine, he also published other works, including an encyclopedia and a set of Chinese Children’s Tales, documenting folk culture and showcasing it to the public.

 

The Ministry of Culture (MOC) remarked that Huang’s dedication to folk art and culture created priceless records for future generations and deeply influenced readers. The MOC added that his unwavering spirit in working on cultural preservation will live on in people’s hearts.
