Taiwanese film director receives award at Hot Docs Festival in Canada

Taiwanese director Wu Fan (吳璠) has been honored with the Emerging International Filmmaker Award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival for her documentary film “XiXi.” 

 

According to the festival’s website, “XiXi” is praised as “bold, unflinching, and dynamic.” It explores themes of womanhood, autonomy, and self-reinvention through video diaries and personal archive. The jury commended Wu Fan for her creation of a “genuine, innovative and transformative film.”

 

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America’s largest documentary festival, conference, and market. Held from Apr. 25 to May 5 this year, the festival showcased 168 documentary films from around the world. As a nominee in the International Competition program, Wu Fan was invited to Toronto, Canada, where she participated in three screening events and shared her artistic journey with the audience.
