Lee Ching-hai is a master in stucco work. When he was 20 years old, he met his mentor Lee Si-ruei from Kinmen, and learned traditional construction methods. Then, he participated in various projects, including the construction and maintenance of temples and traditional houses.
Over the 100-plus years since its establishment in 1902, the Freedom House has borne witness to the Japanese colonial era, the relocation of the Nationalist government to Taiwan, and the island's post-war reconstruction. In the wake of World War II, Freedom House even served as an important location for diplomatic tasks.
