The 58th Festival Off Avignon in France was inaugurated on July 2, launching a record-setting 1,666 shows that have 25,000 performances within three weeks. During the opening event, the group of Taiwanese performers led the parade.
The "Tradition and Innovation - Pili Glove Puppetry Exhibition" was inaugurated at the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo on June 20. The exhibition features classic characters, along with costumes from the Taiwan-Japan production "Thunderbolt Fantasy."
The Museum of Vancouver inaugurated the photography exhibition "Mirage: Disused Public Property in Taiwan" on May 30, showcasing Taiwanese artist Yao Jui-chung's works exposing Taiwan's "mosquito halls."

The East-Central Europe literary festival, Authors' Reading Month (ARM), was inaugurated on July 1 at the Goose on a String Theatre in Brno City, the Czech Republic. This year, Taiwan has been invited to be the guest of honor.

The 35th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music is scheduled to take place on Aug. 31 at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center. The National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA), held a press conference on July 3.

On July 5, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) held the inauguration ceremony for two exhibitions – "An Exhibition on Tea Wares and Restored Crafts" and "Lo Chih Feng's Solo Pottery Exhibition."

Rex How was born in Busan Metropolitan City, South Korea. In 1962, he enrolled in the Busan Overseas Chinese Elementary School. In 1974, he furthered his studies at the National Taiwan University, majoring in international business. After graduating in 1978, he entered the publishing industry.
