The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, in partnership with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, co-organized the "Edward Yang. Quatre històries taiwaneses (Edward Yang: Four Taiwanese Stories)" film festival.
The Women Make Waves International Film Festival from Taiwan is set to debut at the Forum des Images in Paris, celebrating the 30th anniversary of this pioneering Asian women's film festival and showcasing Taiwan's diversity.
The Taiwan Cultural Center in Japan has once again teamed up with Books Kinokuniya, one of Japan's largest bookstore chains. This year, the "Taiwan Book Fair" will be held at over 33 Books Kinokuniya locations throughout Japan.
Ministry Updates
Culture Minister Shih Che attended the plaque-unveiling ceremony on Sept. 14 for the cultural division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague during his first trip to Europe since he assumed office.  
Culture Minister Shih Che arrived in France on Sep. 15 as part of his European tour. Shih stressed that Taiwan will certainly participate in the 2024 Cultural Olympiad, which will run concurrently with the Paris Olympic Games.
For their cultural endeavors, Taiwanese veteran pianist Tchen Yu-chiou, German translator Thilo Diefenbach, and academic Charlotte Pollet from France were honored with the Taiwan-France Cultural Award in Paris on Sept. 18. 
Cultural Features
From a young age, Li Yang learned the tik-long-a-tshu construction method from his father and older brothers. After graduating from elementary school, he officially joined the family workshop and started his livelihood in building tik-long-a-tshu houses in the Anping area of Tainan.
In 1906, the first modern sugar factory in Taiwan was established there by the Japanese Meiji Sugar Company, later becoming Jiali Sugar Factory. The predecessor of Soulangh Cultural Park was a group of 14 warehouses belonging to the Jiali Sugar Factory, covering an area of approximately 13.8 hectares.
