The Centre of Taiwan Studies of the London-based School of Oriental and African Studies will be launching its much anticipated second edition of the Taiwan Post-New Wave Cinema Project, which carries through its mission to raise awareness of contemporary Taiwan cinema by presenting a brand new season of director focused film series followed by live Q&A sessions until July 2 online.
Titled "Formosa Fantastica," the 20th edition of Switzerland's Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) festival will showcase feature-length films, short films, immersive installation works, and forums in separate periods to introduce Taiwan's colorful and diverse visual artworks, from July 2 to 10.
The sculptures of Taiwanese artists Wu Ching and Huang Fu-shou, which include 17 poetic gold sculptures and 27 carvings that show a surprising range of jade's colors, will be presented at a virtual exhibition titled "Treasures in Gold & Jade: Masterworks from Taiwan" at the Bowers Museum in California.
Ministry Updates
New relief loan project for performing arts organizations
In order to cope with the worsening pandemic, the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), Taiwan SMEG, Bank of Taiwan, Taiwan Cooperative Bank will be launching the "Performing Arts Groups Relief Loan Project" on July 1 with the aim of assisting cultural and creative organizations.
MOC publishes
After a year of discussing and sorting out the suggestions of the National Community Building Conference, which took place between Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 in 2019, as well as gathering relevant information on community building, the National Community Building Conference published the "Community Building Policy White Paper" to demonstrate the participation of all people in planning the community building of tomorrow.
Lions Clubs International donates two paintings to MOC
Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, accepted the donation of two paintings from MD300 Taiwan, Lions Clubs International on Jun. 30 which includes "Formosa Evergreen," a masterpiece jointly produced under a sense of national pride during the unique era by 15 master painters, and "Heshan Yongshou."

As the general secretary of the Institute of Historical Resources Management, Chiu Ru-hwa has been working in a non-profit capacity for many years to preserve Taiwan’s communities and cultural assets and to introduce new concepts and technologies. While she formally studied music, graduating from Wiener Konzerthaus in Austria, her passion for history led her to decide on working to preserve and revitalize cultural heritage in Taiwan and Asia Pacific region.
